Who has the different word?

One phone, secret words and a shared mystery.

How to use

A word game for 4–8 people sharing one phone. One of 20 original everyday word pairs is assigned at random, with exactly one player receiving a different word. Reveal by seat, hide before passing, discuss and confirm eliminations, then reveal all words at the end.

Start in three steps

  1. Choose 4–8 players and keep fixed seat numbers. Exactly one seat gets a different word; everyone else gets the same word. Individual roles are not revealed.
  2. Pass the device by seat. Each person confirms before viewing their word, remembers it and hides it before passing. After everyone has looked, words cannot be viewed again. Take turns describing and discussing; a tied vote eliminates nobody.
  3. Select a surviving seat and confirm elimination. The majority wins if the odd-word player is eliminated. The odd-word player wins if still alive with only two players remaining. All words are revealed at the end. Confirm clearing the game before a new deal.

Storage and limitations

Words and game progress stay in page memory, with no server upload or persistent storage. Leaving or refreshing clears them. Going to the background hides the word and requires the current seat to confirm again. The cover reduces accidental viewing but cannot prevent spectators, screenshots or developer-tool access. Do not use it to keep secrets.
