Batch file name planner: Arrange serial numbers to compare with original file names: purpose and instructions
Paste an original file name in each line, set the prefix, starting number, zero padding digits and whether to retain the last file extension, and instantly check the old and new file names. You can copy the complete new file name list and comparison table, or download UTF-8 TXT; no need to log in, processing on this browser page, no reading or changing of the actual file, no saving or uploading.
How to use
- Paste the original file names, one per line, without folder paths. Maximum of 1,000 original lines, 100,000 Unicode code points, and a maximum of 200 code points each in the original file name and the new file name.
- Set a prefix of up to 80 Unicode code points, a starting number of 1–999999, and zero padding of 1–6 digits. The last number cannot exceed 999999; choose whether to retain the last file extension.
- Check the line number, number of blank lines and comparison results, copy the complete new file name list or comparison table, or download the TXT. Preview 100 items per page, and export always contains all valid data.
Frequently asked questions
- Will this directly help me modify the files on my computer?
- No, it only generates text layout and comparison table, does not have permission to read files or folders, and does not check existing files on the disk. If the new name is the same as another original name, you will be reminded that the order of name changes may conflict; please confirm the folder, operating system restrictions and the actual order of name changes.
- How to deal with file extensions, blank lines and duplicate file names?
- Report .final.pdf only retains .pdf, .env has no file extension, and the uppercase and lowercase characters are retained as they are; the file extension can also be canceled. Blank lines are skipped and counted, and leading and trailing blanks are not deleted from the original name. CRLF/CR are unified to LF, and the last line break is counted as an extra line. The original name is normalized by NFC and then converted to lowercase for comparison to check for collisions. If it is repeated, the entire copy will be blocked and no duplicates will be automatically removed.
- What input would stop the entire plan? What is the format of the comparison table?
- Exceeding the upper limit, invalid numbers, paths or special symbols, control characters and tabs, trailing spaces or periods, and Windows reserved names will stop the entire result and prompt file name problems with the original line number. The first line of the comparison table contains the column names of the original file name and the new file name, separated by Tab; TXT is UTF-8 without BOM, uses LF for line breaks and retains the last line break. The new file name list also retains the last line break.
