Randomizer: balanced grouping of events and workshops: purpose and instructions

Paste the list of participants with one per line, specify the number of groups, and press the button to generate a random group with a balanced number of people. Each person appears exactly once, and each group can differ by at most one person; you can copy all groups or download UTF-8 TXT. No need to log in, the list is only processed on this browser page and will not be saved or uploaded.

How to use

  1. Enter one participant per line, for a total of 2–500 people; leading and trailing blanks are deleted and blank lines are skipped. Maximum of 1,000 lines (including blank lines), 100,000 Unicode code points for the entire copy; maximum of 80 code points per person, no control characters or tabs accepted.
  2. Set the number of integer groups from 2 to 100, which cannot exceed the number of people; first deal with the repeated name and input problems prompted, and then click "Generate Group".
  3. Check all groups, copy full text or download TXT. Click "Regroup" when you need to redraw; modifying the list or number of groups will immediately clear the old results.

Frequently asked questions

How to deal with participants with the same name, blank lines and too long lists?
Delete leading and trailing blanks and skip blank lines; CRLF/CR are unified into LF, and the last line break is also counted as one line. Names are compared after normalization by NFC and are case-sensitive, and the output retains the trimmed original text. If they have the same name, the original line number will be used to prompt them. Please add identification and then group them. If the maximum number of lines or code points is exceeded after pasting, the entire copy will be refused to be pasted, the original list will be retained, and the old results will be cleared; it will not be truncated. Other input errors will also stop the entire group and will not automatically delete people.
How to randomize groups? Is redrawing necessarily different?
Use the browser to generate a random order, and then distribute it evenly according to the number of groups; the extra people will be arranged in the first few groups. Redraws may be the same, this is a daily activity tool, no certification of draw fairness is provided, and it is not arranged by ability or department. If the random number fails to be obtained, it will prompt to retry and retain the input, and no partial results will be generated.
Will the results be saved? Does the copy and download include the full list?
The grouping results remain unchanged until redraw is pressed or the input is modified. The current content will be retained when you return after switching within the site, and will be cleared after refreshing or closing the page. Both copying and downloading include all groups and participants. TXT uses UTF-8 without BOM, LF line breaks and a line break at the end.
