CSV Column Selector User Guide
Read one UTF-8 CSV locally, select columns by their original positions, reorder them, and export a previewed copy. Cells stay as text; the tool does not infer numbers or evaluate formulas. Files are not sent to a server.
How to use
Import a CSV and confirm whether the first row contains headers. Changing this resets the column selection.
Select columns and use Move up or Move down to set the output order. Original positions identify duplicate or blank headers.
Generate a copy and check the preview. Choose whether to include a BOM, then export the complete CSV. Generate again after changing settings.
Formats and limits
Up to 1 MiB, 5,000 rows including headers, 100 columns, and 200,000 cells. Only valid UTF-8 .csv files are accepted.
Input records may use CRLF or LF; output records use CRLF. Original newlines inside quotes, whitespace, leading zeros, and cell text are preserved. Invalid quotes or inconsistent column counts reject the whole file.
The preview shows up to 20 rows, 10 columns, and the first 300 characters per cell; column labels show up to 120 characters. Export includes complete selected columns, up to 2 MiB.
Output
A new UTF-8 CSV copy in the selected order, optionally with a BOM. The original is unchanged. No row filtering, column calculations, or merging.
Frequently asked questions
Can duplicate or blank headers cause the wrong column to be selected?
Each column is identified by its original position; headers are labels, not unique keys. Without headers, the first row remains part of the data.
Will 0012 and formula-like text stay unchanged?
This tool preserves cell text without executing HTML or formulas. Spreadsheet apps may still turn codes into numbers or interpret formulas. Import columns as text and decide which columns to remove.
The file name and content are only processed in your browser and are not transmitted to the server. The original file will not be overwritten. Please export the required results before leaving the tool.
